Introducing WPA’s Church Community Builder!

Posted by: Pastor Darren Ethier

What is CCB?

CCB is an internet-based system designed from the ground up to help people in our church connect with each other, discover ministry opportunities, and keep track of what’s happening in the church.

Waterloo Pentecostal Assembly is using CCB because we wanted another tool that helps equip staff, ministry leaders, and the congregation communicate more effectively with each other and the community at large.

We’ve already published a brochure that gives a general overview of CCB (you can download this brochure by clicking here).  In this post we’re going to highlight some first steps for using CCB for the first time.  In this walk-through guide we’ll help you get started exploring the many features of our new church web-based online community. You will be able to interact with others, get details on events, join groups, and keep your own personal profile updated.

There are two ways of accessing the login page for CCB. The first way is to enter “wpa.ccbchurch.com” manually into your browser address bar.  The second way is to use the menu item on our church website (see diagram below). On the CCB Login page you can enter your login and password (if you already have one), and click the ‘login’ button.  If this is your first time accessing CCB you will need to request a login and password and you do this by clicking on the ‘Sign up’ link.  If you have forgotten your login, use the ‘Forgot Password?’ link to request that it be emailed to you.

Your Personal Home Page

When you first log in to CCB you will see your personal home page.  On this page is the following:

Greeting

This is a general announcement area that shows up for every logged in user of CCB.  Church staff have the ability to edit what shows up in this area and is a way we can get announcements out to everyone using the system.

Events

In this area of your CCB home page you will four upcoming events for the entire church and any groups that you belong to. Also, there is a small calendar of the current month indicating all the days there are events on.  You can click on any of the event titles for more information on that event, click on a day in a month for events on that day, and click on the “Go to Church-Wide Calendar link” for a page showing the entire calendar.

My Groups

When you scroll down you will see at a glance all the groups that you belong to at WPA.  We’ve already set up everyone in the groups they currently belong to (we’ve done everything we can to be as accurate as possible but if you notice any errors please accept our apologies and contact us – we will rectify it as soon as possible).  You can click on the group titles to go to the group page for your group.

Edit Profile

One of the first things you will want to do when you log into CCB is edit your profile.  Your profile is an online record of various information about you.  We take privacy very seriously at WPA and have taken care to ensure that the only profile information visible to logged in CCB users is what you have given permission to be published in the church directory.  Approved Church staff and administration have access to more of your information but we follow strict confidentiality policies when it comes to what we have access to. For more information on the privacy settings in CCB you can read the brochure (click here to download).

By editing your profile, you are able to make sure your information is correct and up to date.  You can click on the various tabs to edit:

  • BASIC – The basic tab covers things such as your birthday, anniversary (if married), your email and contact phones.
  • ADDRESS – Your mailing address plus extra fields if desired for home & work.
  • SERVING – Your spiritual gifts, passions, and abilities
  • SOCIAL – your favorites (activities, music, quote) plus school & grade and your faith journey story.
  • PRIVACY – you control who views your profile information. See the explanations on the page. Choose ‘Everyone can view’ to encourage community among the people of WPA.
  • CUSTOM FIELDS – This contains any other fields we have made possible for you to edit (what these fields represent may vary over time).

Add or edit the information on your profile and then make sure you click the ‘SAVE’ button at the bottom to save the information to the database.

To UPLOAD A PHOTO of yourself from your hard drive, click “browse” on the Basic Tab when editing your profile.

You can VIEW YOUR PROFILE information by clicking on the tabs:

  • OVERVIEW – View your basic and serving details.
Edit your family by clicking on ‘Go to Family Profile’
  • MORE ABOUT YOU – View info from the ‘Social’ tab including favorites and personal faith story.
  • INVOLVEMENT – View groups you’ve joined, volunteer opportunities you’ve signed up for (positions), events you’ve registered for as well as class attendance (if it has been entered), and your friends list.

CHANGE YOUR LOGIN:

You can change your login and password. Type it in and hit save. You will be logged out and asked to sign in with the new login.

PEOPLE

To search for people click on the ‘People’ tab. Enter a few letters of the first and last name or the beginning of either name. Possible matches will appear. Select the correct person. You will not be able to see names of people who have set their privacy to unlisted or people who have limited access (usually guests).

When a person’s profile displays, if he/she has an email address entered in his/her profile, you can click on the send email link to send an email. (The email address is hidden.) You can also add the person to your friend’s list, which displays when you click the People tab.

GROUPS

Any groups you’ve joined are shown on your home page. Everyone is a part of the “Waterloo Pentecostal Church Directory group”. To search for other groups, click on the Groups tab and then Search.

You can enter criteria for the search. Here we are searching for any groups in the Youth & Young Adults Ministry. To search for ALL available groups, leave all fields blank and click Submit.

Groups matching your search will be displayed. You can see whether the group is open to join or if you must request to join. Click on the group name to open the group home page.

You can click on the link to join the group (or request to join if required) or you can email the group leader for more information about the group. If the group is open to join, you can see events and post a message. You can also view any files uploaded, and see assigned tasks and any volunteer opportunities (positions) available in the group.

RSVP for an event by clicking on the event name on the group home page and then on the RSVP button. If it is a recurring event, you will be scheduled for all events.

Once you join a group, you will be able to see other participants in the group and send email or view the individual’s profile (click on the person’s name).

HELP

If you need assistance, leave a comment on this page, or contact the church office. There’s also a knowledgebase to browse at the Help link in your top navigation bar. Enjoy connecting with these new tools!
