Who For? Adults

Living the Word is an AMF for anyone who really wants to “go deep” into God’s Word and learn to apply discovered spiritual truths to your everyday life.  Using the “Precepts” course material, participants in this class work through books of the Bible in an exciting and illuminating way as guided by Corina McGilliivray, the facilitator.  It’s astounding how often what’s being studied in scripture applies to something a class member is going through in their life at that moment.  Come and discover how God’s Word can make a difference in your life!

Currently, we are continuing to study  1 Corinthians.

“Why are there so many divisions in the church? Why does the church sometimes tolerate sin? Are you experiencing any of the same problems that the Corinthians did in your own relationships or in your church? If you have similar questions, this study is an important resource. Learn how to pray by knowing God’s mind and will on divisions. What does God say about marriage, divorce, remarriage? Tongues? Prophecy? Giving? Paul addresses these issues raised by Corinthian believers.”

Through research-based insights and stories from other parents walking the same road as you, you can use these ideas today and in the years to come to help build Sticky Faith in your kids.

Who For?:  Parents with young children (ages 0-10)

Parenting young children to grow into faith-filled teens and adults is a daunting task, and increasingly so as society around us challenges what we believe, and how we should raise our children. WPA has recognized a ministry need to partner with WPA’s parents of young children (0-10) in their parenting journey.

“Give me the child for 7 years, and I will give you the man.”

The first 7 years of a child’s life are critical in shaping their character, attitudes and behaviours. Parents need to actively ensure that THEY are having the greatest impact on their children, most importantly in matters of faith and character development. The home needs to be the primary place where faith is lived-out and nurtured.

“HomeBuilders”, co-led by Andrew & Margaret Lucas and Jason & Bethanne Droppert, has one element that is this AMF class that will provide parenting studies and discussions on relevant topics, with fellow parents of young children.

An additional element of this ministry will be ministry BY young families, in conjunction with Pastor Kathy, where ministry opportunities will be presented for families to participate in together, giving you as parents opportunities to demonstrate and discuss with your children different ways to serve, bless and give to others. We’ll be announcing opportunities every month.

Current study topic:

Boundaries with Kids – facilitated by Carol Pankratz our guest teacher for this course.

Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend take you through the ins and outs of establishing family boundaries and cultivating sound character in your children. The clear, helpful exercises and applications in the Boundaries with Kids Workbook will help you make the leap from understanding to:

  • identifying the boundary issues underlying child behavior problems
  • setting boundaries and establishing consequences with your kids
  • getting out of the “nagging” trap
  • relinquishing control—and helping your child develop self-control instead
  • applying the ten laws of boundaries to parenting
  • taking six practical steps for implementing boundaries with your kids

Step by step, you will take strides toward bringing control to an out-of-control family life, setting limits while still being a loving parent—and above all, instilling in your children the godly character that is the foundation for healthy, productive adult living
